About Cumbrian Fellbred
"The quality of meat has been excellent. We are delighted with Cumbrian Fellbred" Tracey Watson - Newby Bridge |
Cumbrian Fellbred Products, based in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, is a local catering butcher that has been sourcing Cumbrian Meat from Cumbrian Farms for many years supplying the best Hotels, Restaurants and Pubs. Now it is being made available to our customers outside the region, who have asked where they may get the very special taste of Cumbrian Meats.
No-one quite knows what makes Cumbrian Fellbred Meat so special. It could be the limestone, sandstone or granite on which the herb-rich local pastures grow. Perhaps it's the traditional farming methods and lack of chemical supplements, or maybe it's just our famous clean Lakeland air.
Either way, it is real Beef, real Lamb and real Pork, with a leaner tighter texture, a slightly darker colour and unique flavour, which is so delicious you can almost taste the meadow in the meat. It is one of Britain's most prized secrets and until recently, only known within the borders of Cumbria, "Cumbrian Fellbred Meat".
To offer you Britain's best tasting meat, Cumbria's farmers are working together to bring their product to market under a single label, a label that is your guarantee of freshness. Cumbrian Fellbred.
Pie for a Prince

Dudley Carruthers presents Prince

mutton and ale pies.

"He was over the moon" recalled Dudley Carruthers, director of Morecambe based Udales, who presented Prince Charles with one of the company's new hand-made mutton and ale pies during the royal visit to Cockermouth auction mart.
I bet he was! Packed full of delicious Herdwick mutton and Dent Brewery T'oud Tup Beer, who wouldn't be.
The Prince, who has been spearheading a campaign to promote mutton was delighted to hear from Dudley about its increasing popularity in both restaurants as well as on the home front.
"The Herdwick mutton we use in the pie is sourced exclusively from sheep matured on the heather and grasses of the Cumbrian fells which gives it its distinctive taste," said Dudley.
Udales has been working closely with its sister company Cumbrian Fellbred, which is based in Milnthorpe, to develop new products using locally sourced meat.
"Last year we supported the Swaledale farm group and this year we have been doing the same thing with Herdwick."
Mutton and ale pie is traditionally made with Guiness, "But we definitely wanted a local brew and T'oud Tup fitted the bill perfectly" explained Dudley.
